Surface Mold Testing in Los Angeles
Surface sampling answers a direct question: what is this? When there is visible discoloration on drywall, wood, tile grout, a cabinet base, or HVAC components, a swab or tape-lift sample can be analyzed to determine whether mold growth is present and what type it is.
Swab and tape-lift sampling
A tape lift captures material from a dry surface with minimal disturbance. A swab is used on textured or damp surfaces. Both are sealed, labeled, and submitted to the laboratory with documentation of exactly where each sample was taken.
When surface testing is useful
It is useful for identifying suspect staining, documenting a condition before repairs, supporting a conversation with a landlord or contractor, or confirming whether a discoloration is mold growth rather than soot, mineral deposits, or ordinary wear.
Combining surface and air samples
Surface results tell you what is on a material; air results tell you what is in the air. On many properties the two together give a clearer picture than either alone, and we will recommend the combination only where it is warranted.
